Apple Music Coming to Amazon Echo Speakers

In an interesting turn of events, Amazon announced that Apple Music will become available to Echo devices on December 17th.

Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon devices had this to say:

“Music is one of the most popular features on Alexa—since we launched Alexa four years ago, customers are listening to more music in their homes than ever before,” said Dave Limp, senior vice president, Amazon Devices. “We are committed to offering great music providers to our customers and since launching the Music Skill API to developers just last month, we’ve expanded the music selection on Alexa to include even more top tier services. We’re thrilled to bring Apple Music – one of the most popular music services in the US – to Echo customers this holiday.”

I’m not shocked but pleasantly surprised Apple Music is coming to Echo devices. Apple’s streaming music platform seems to be the only product they’re willing to push to any device or OS. This makes sense as the their biggest competitor Spotify is available just about anywhere. In order for Apple to catch up to Spotify’s worldwide dominance of music streaming they need to be available in more places.

This also lines up with the Apple’s strategy of continuing to push services to drive financial growth. As unit sales of Apple devices stand still their revenue continues to grow. Having Apple Music available on more devices will only help their cause.
